RIBS TPTD: Bonus Hours-Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah

OK, here we are finally. Man, it’s been a crazy 4 or 5 weeks around here during the month of September. So many things have been going on that we wanted to focus on and/or draw attention to (from a musical point of view of course). Our 5 mixes in 5 days P-Funk extravaganza for the Labor Day holiday weekend, the Jena 6 situation (which is far, far from over), and our special look at Gil Scott-Heron and whew, September just flew by!

But now as we enter into October, my favorite month of the year, we can settle down (at least for a bit) and get back to our regular “triple play” format here at Rhythms In Black Satin. Well, close to it at least {smile}. For this first Thursday in October we’re gonna borrow something I first heard on radio station WBLS 107.5 in New York during my high school days. They used to have something called “Bonus Hours” every weekday between 10am and 12noon where they would take a couple of new album releases and play all of the songs on them. Man, I used to love that! Remember, this was back in the days before we had the Internet, MP3 players and all that. Unless you knew of someone who already had bought the album there was no way to hear it before plunking down your own hard earned dollars. AAMOF, I cannot tell you how many times Bonus Hours saved me from buying something I would not have liked. Of course, on the other hand, it cost me a fair amount too, as I remember rushing out to the record store as soon as it was over to buy the discs I had just heard!

Anyway, that is why the post has the subtitle attached to it today. Our TPTD is doing it’s own version of “Bonus Hours” as we turn our focus on three new albums that just hit the stores on September 25th. This week the RIBS TPTD presents brand new releases from:
